Service 2.0 FAQ
What is Service 2.0 written in?
Service 2.0 is build on the Microsoft .NET Framework and is
primarily written in C#.
What does Service 2.0 use for a database?
Service 2.0 uses the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database. It
also supports the free version of SQL Server called MSDE
(Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine).
What operating systems does Service 2.0 support?
The client software is designed to work with Windows XP,
Windows 2000, and Windows 2003. The server software runs on Windows XP, 2000, or
2003 systems. We have also tested it on the beta release of
Windows Vista.
Does Service 2.0 require IIS?
Because Service 2.0 uses Web Services (SOAP) for all of its
database access it requires IIS be installed on the server.
Clients however do not need this package installed. IIS is a
free web server packaged with Windows XP, 2000, and 2003.
Is Service 2.0 "Web Based"?
No. Service 2.0 uses Web Services (SOAP) for data
communications but it is not a web applications and does not run
in a browser. It is a true Client/Server application that simply
uses Web Services to facilitate communication between the Client
and the Server components. While Web Services share some
similarities with the "World Wide Web" they are in fact quite
different and exclusively designed for data communication. You
can find information on Web Services and SOAP at
http://www.w3.org/2002/ws/Activity.
What is the difference between Boomerang, Service 2005,
and Service 2.0?
They are all the same product. Boomerang was the original
project name and Service 2005 was its working title. Service
2005 was later re-titled Service 2.0 to make it easier to
end-users to know what version of the application they are
running.
